Conferences 2012 World Indigenous Housing Conference June 11, 2012 - June 15, 2012

Description

Organization: AHMA

Location: Vancouver

Link: Click here for more information

The World Indigenous Housing Conference will be held June 11-15, 2012, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the first international event to bring Indigenous leaders, senior politicians and policymakers, researchers and corporate heads from around the world together to learn from best practices, build a global network, and showcase Indigenous cultures.

An international committee of Indigenous housing leaders is overseeing the WIHC program, and will select all presenters for the conference. The WIHC Committee invites conference registrants—including Indigenous leaders, service providers, government leaders/officials, researchers, advocates and others—to submit abstracts on major opportunities, ideas and solutions in Indigenous housing, following the five conference themes selected by committee members:

  • Sharing our stories (case studies)
  • Governance and capacity building
  • Government partnerships: What works?
  • Housing as a determinant of health
  • Disaster preparedness and response

The overarching theme of the conference is Sharing Our Stories, Sharing Our Successes. From urban centres to remote rural areas, supportive housing to homeownership, we want to hear what’s happening on the ground in Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, our four target countries, so we can learn from our responses to shared challenges.
Submission guidelines
The 2012 WIHC offers two opportunities for abstract submissions:
Research abstracts to display at the conference
15-minute research abstract presentations in conference breakout rooms

Submit your abstract/presentation synopsis by the end of the day on February 15, 2012, in the following format:
Title (100 characters or fewer)
Name and affiliation of presenting author
The theme (of the five listed above) that your abstract/presentation fits under
A summary of your abstract/presentation (250 words or fewer)

Save your abstract in MS Word or RTF format with the file name “LastName_FirstName” (e.g., “Smith_Chris.doc”). Email it to [email protected] with the subject line “WIHC 2012 Abstract Submission.”

Selection process and criteria

The conference committee will review submissions after the February 15, 2012, deadline.

Abstract/presentation submissions will be evaluated based on their relevance and timeliness, consistency with WIHC themes, and potential contribution to advancing knowledge in Indigenous housing.

We will notify you of our decision after March 1, 2012. All decisions are final.

If your abstract is accepted, we will notify you of your presenting format and full presentation guidelines.

Registration for presenters

Because of budget constraints, we are able to waive conference fees only for the day of accepted presentations. Presenting authors are responsible for their own conference fees, travel arrangements and accommodation.

If your abstract is accepted, please register immediately after being notified of your acceptance. The deadline to register is March 31, 2012. Accepted abstracts will be withdrawn from the program if registration is not received by this date.
