Developing design skills can be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences for a young person. It can also be a great investment that can result in better work opportunities and financial independence. And an opportunity to create and bring something into the world that can have a positive effect on others.

Through a series of hands-on activities the youth will learn the importance of Spacing, Rhythm and Shape, as the foundation for their design creations. This workshop will teach youth the principles of design thinking methods, providing them with a solid foundation to engage in creative problem solving and to launch their own visual projects.

Agenda:

Day 1

The Process of Design thinking: Getting familiar with the design process from start to finish, and learning how to get faster and better on each project.
Exploring the power of visioning and imagination: Discover different techniques and methods to create more and better ideas and resolve creative blockages.
Design Principles: Applying design principles in any project, from a personal logo to a social poster or a company’s website.
Day 2

The role of color in design: Discovering how to select the right colors for projects and how to combine them in creative ways to achieve the best results.
Learning to use words and fonts: Finding out how to choose the right fonts and how to use typography to enhance graphic creations.
Day 3

Design as career option: The youth will get to know the different areas of design and the opportunities each area provides. This might be the start of a new career!
The power of Design Thinking in problem solving: Participants will learn how to apply design skills in every aspect of their lives as a tool for solving problems and getting better results.
Applying design skills in a professional setting: Everyone will use the skills they have learned to create a design product from start to finish in this final exercise.
