Encouraging Aboriginal youth to participate in sport

The Aboriginal Youth Sport Legacy Fund supports programs which encourage BC’s Aboriginal youth to participate in physical activity and sport.

Grants for athletes and communities

NRT Scholarships and Bursaries are available to First Nation students pursuing a post-secondary education from a recognized institution. Scholarships are awarded at the Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate levels. Bursaries are awarded to students pursuing trades certificates and diplomas. NRT has allocated a total of $750,000 for Scholarship & Bursary funding in 2011-2012.

The Youth Education Assistance Fund (YEAF) provides grants to 19 to 23 year olds attending university, college, a university-college, an institute or designated private school. Grants can be provided for up to four years, with the grant amount varying from year to year. For example, the grant was $5,000 for the 2005/06 school year, increasing to $5,500 for 2006/07.
