TITLE EDUCATION ASSISTANT POSTING DATE: JULY 13, 2012
DEPARTMENT: EDUCATION SALARY: COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Education Assistant reports to the Education Manager. The Education Assistant responsibilities will include assisting with Early Education Programs, Elementary School, Secondary School programming, Post-Secondary Programs and Services, Adult Education and OKIB Staff Training and Development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- P ost-Secondary education preferred and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field
- Peer Counseling Certification preferred.
- Relevant combination of education and related experience and knowledge will also be considered.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates internal and external agency meetings
- Provides liaison service to students and parents
- Ability to conduct client assessment interviews and prepare progress reports and business letters
- Coordinate all aspects for all levels of OKIB members Graduation ceremonies
- Develop and deliver adequate and appropriate case management services
- Assists the Education Manager with Post-Secondary applications and services
- Coordinates and record minutes for meetings
- Process accounts payable for the Education Department
- Prepare funding reports to AANDC
- Maintains student database, Elementary, Secondary and Post-Secondary
- Prepare presentation, proposals, and submissions for the program
- Process filing as required
- Prepare Purchase Orders, P.O. tracking and account coding
- Prepares and distributes all notices and directives
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Aboriginal descent, prefer a member of Okanagan Indian Band
- Problem sol ving skills
- Able to work within a team environment
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
- Knowledge of the Aboriginal community, culture and politics
- Integrity, honesty and trustworthiness
EXPERIENCE:
- Budgeting and Accounting
- Computer skills
- Peer counseling skills and experience
- Program design and development experience
REQUIREMENTS:
- Current Driver’s license and own reliable transportation
- Ability to ma intain confidential information
- Ability to work with clients who have multiple barriers
- Must consent to a criminal record check
