STK’EMLUPSEMC TE SECWEPEMC NATION PROJECT ASSESSMENT PROCESS INDIGENOMICS ASSESSOR

The Indigenomics Assessor will work closely with internal staff and other organizations on potential benefits from proposed major projects within SSN territory, specifically economic benefits and relationship building agreements between SSN and proponents and SSN and the Crown.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with the SSN education, training and employment department on maximizing benefits from major projects for SSN members during the project assessment process

• Work with the economic development arm of SSN to maximize contracting benefits from major projects for SSN members during the project assessment process

• Monitor the various partnership agreements being negotiated and established with SSN and SEI and government/HVC with respect to the benefits anticipated to come from such agreements from the Project

• Provide written reports summarizing the existing status of the benefits from major projects, potential future benefits.

• Work with the Project Assessment Team to maintain a log of on-going issues and concerns with the project

• Contribute to the writing of the Project Assessment Interim Reports and Final Reports

• Excellent writing/communication skills


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Diploma or degree in related discipline, preferably with First Nations; or, an equivalent combination of training and work experience

• Demonstrated experience and ability building and maintaining cooperative and productive working relationships; and, effectively liaising with and for the team

• Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, with minimal supervision

• Ability to handle confidential information in a trusted and responsible manner

• Effective interpersonal communication skills

• Strong teamwork, problem solving and service orientation skills

• Flexible hours based on role and availability

• Experience working with First Nations is an asset

• Understanding of First Nations culture, tradition and history

• Respectful of Secwepemc traditional protocols and procedures

• Other related duties required by SSN


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Preference will be given to members of the Secwepemc Nation or individuals of Aboriginal descent.

HOURS OF WORK: Full time with occasional work outside regular business hours
PAY: Commensurate with this position
TERM: One year, to be extended, funding dependent. The Project Assessment process is anticipated to extend until at least Jan 2023
LINE OF AUTHORITY: Reports to SSN Project Assessment Lead

In relation to our Declaration of Title, SSN developed our project assessment process which will run alongside, and where appropriate, collaboratively with the Environmental Assessment Process (BCEAA and/or IAA). Our process is inclusive rather than exclusive and assesses the project using our laws and governance, which includes assessments representing our cultural perspectives, knowledge and history. This process is comprised of several components such as expert reviews, an SSN Review Panel Hearing and SSN assessments designed to review and assess both tangible and intangible impacts of the project, such as those impacts of cultural and spiritual nature. The SSN Project Assessment Team will support the implementation of the SSN Project Assessment Process whose purpose is to:

“Facilitate informed decision making by the SSN Communities in a manner which is consistent with our laws, traditions, and customs and assesses project impacts in a way that respects our knowledge and perspectives.”
