learn IT SKILLS Program


There are jobs in the Information Technology (IT) industry for First Nations with certification. The First Nations Technology Council (FNTC) is working with CNC (the College of New Caledonia) and PGNAETA (Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment and Training Association) to develop a program that will target First Nations students.

In addition to a certification from CNC, successful students will graduate with internationally recognized certifications:
• Cisco’s CCNA certification
• CompTIA’s A+ certificate
and will understand related vendor neutral wireless access points and related security protocols, including Microsoft, Novell, Linux operating systems. In addition, students will become familiar with Canadian business practices including project management practices typically found in today’s leading companies. Rounding out the line-up is a work term placement undertaken with the support of local entities such as Northern Health, Telus, Shaw Cable, etc, 

The ICT Sector Council is currently offering a $10,000 subsidy to employers who hire new graduates from in approved ICT areas.

Students will also be involved in essential skills training and life skills training. Training provided by PGNAETA that will provide them with the skills they will need to secure employment in the industry and handle the life challenges they face while completing their education and work towards advancing their career. A coordinator will support students while they are in completing their coursework providing services and supports including upgrading and tutoring as needed.
