Since time immemorial, we have always honoured, protected, relied on and sustainably managed our water resources in accordance with our traditional laws and governance structures.
As St’át’imc, we believe that we have been placed here by our Creator to live as stewards of this land. Our responsibility is to live in mutual accord with all, and to care for protect and honour all living beings. This is “Nxekmenlhkálha” (our laws and way of life). We have inherent rights and title to waters. We respect our waters and have always harvested our freshwaters resources in a sustainable manner. These rights have been recognized by the Crown, rooted in Canadian law.
