 Northgate Minerals Corp., owner of the Kemess gold project in northwestern British Columbia, has agreed to be bought out by Nova Scotiabased AuRico Gold Inc. in a $1.46-billion deal, the companies announced Monday.

Wu Shu, the mining company’s CEO, made the announcement Monday in Beijing after a meeting with Premier Jean Charest.
