Upcoming Training Opportunities from the First Nations Technology Council

Why Tech?

Did you know that salaries in the BC technology sector are 85% higher than the BC average? Technology is also the fastest growing sector in the province, employing more people than forestry, oil and gas combined. The First Nations Technology Council is working to ensure that Indigenous peoples have the training they need to take advantage of these jobs.

In 2018, 95 Indigenous students participated in the Foundations and Futures in Innovation and Technology (FiiT) program. Thanks to a $7.1 million investment from Employment and Social Development Canada, many of these students developed foundational skills across six program streams including Digital Marketing, Web Development, Software Testing, Network Technology, GIS mapping and Administrative Professional.

"This investment will greatly contribute to the development of an Indigenous innovation ecosystem in which our people will have the skills, tools and resources to advance self-determination in the digital age," says Denise Williams, CEO of the First Nations Technology Council. "As the original innovators on these territories, we as Indigenous peoples know that all we need is the same level of access that any global citizen requires to succeed and achieve wellness both socially and economically in an ever increasingly connected world."

Upcoming Deliveries:
