We’ve partnered with SMART, SAVVY + ASSOCIATES to search for our new Communications Specialist for a one-year contract (maternity leave). Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Specialist is a key member of a small and highly collaborative team, and will work closely with First Nations leaders and project partners. About the role:

- Write compelling project stories that capture and share the knowledge First Nations have developed through their economic development and conservation initiatives.
Regularly publish online and print materials that effectively showcase the Great Bear Rainforest, First Nations, the initiatives Coast Funds has supported

- Coordinate content development for the annual report and strategic plan including compiling and editing written material, photography, and infographics

- Develop, publish and manage an email newsletter (Talking Stick)

- Write and distribute media releases and op-eds in support of the stewardship and economic development work First Nations are leading in the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii

- Coordinate various contractors—including graphic designers, printers, web developers, and writers—in support of achieving communications goals

- Provide communications support to management such as preparing Committee meeting agendas, drafting briefing notes, presentations, speaking notes, annual report, and other internal or external communications materials

About you:

- 3+ years of related experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment

- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to relay technical information in plain language

- Highly collaborative work style with a focus on teamwork and creating win-win outcomes for stakeholders and community

- Demonstrated ability to establish cooperative and effective working relationships with First Nations business representatives, NGOs and contractors

- Working knowledge of marketing communications tools including Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, Mailchimp, and WordPress

- Excellent project management skills with an ability to balance multiple priorities to produce tangible results in a dynamic and deadline-driven work environment.

How you’ll stand apart:

- Experience working with First Nations or other Indigenous communities

- Familiarity with the Great Bear Rainforest and Coast Funds’ Participating First Nations
