As a Coordinator, Elders in Residence Programs, Indigenous Health with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Develop, plan, facilitate and coordinate the Elders in Residence Program across Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) to meet the identified needs of the community it serves.
  • Collaborate with other programs and leadership across the organization, as well as community partners, to grow the reach of the program, build new services, and ensure the development and implementation of the program is aligned with community needs and values.
  • Represent the health authority in coordinating the recruitment of Elders, as well as establishing partnerships in urban, rural and remote communities in partnership with other staff, mentoring, education and building on individual strengths, to ensure appropriate matching of individuals based on their skillsets.
  • Maintain integrity of the program, and the care that the Elders provide to communities and staff.
  • Arrange regular follow up with the team, to evaluate services, determine needs and safety requirements of each Elder, ensuring individual competencies can thrive.




Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Health or Social Sciences, Business or related field
  • Three (3) to five (5) years recent, related experience working with Elders, Indigenous community health and program development, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, as local area travel within the Vancouver Coastal Health geographic area, may require the use of a vehicle.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to act as a champion and advocate on behalf of the program.
  • Demonstrated ability to respectfully communicate, facilitate, and present, on behalf of the program.
  • Demonstrated understanding, knowledge and skill of Indigenous Cultural Safety and humility.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the historical and ongoing effects of colonization on Indigenous People.
  • Demonstrated cultural knowledge and understanding of Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with others both within and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain, conceptualize and develop reports regarding a variety of operational and informational statistics.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and applicable office software applications as effective tools to achieve results.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.


As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
