Videographer/Editor – term position

Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival, based in Vancouver, BC, would like to engage the services of a videographer/digital editor for a summer term position with the Festival. The Festival is currently on hiatus from physical site-specific programming given the cancellation of its 2020 Season. However it is creating a range of virtual programming to share through its website and other digital channels. This position will support a team of virtual content creators, adding expertise and capacity that is currently missing in the group.

Skills and Experience
• record video footage of readings by individual or pairs of theatre artist/s, in a variety of Lower Mainland locations, including indoors and outdoors; primarily as a single videographer, working with an on-site director who will coach the artistic performances
• able to achieve a high standard of audio /video quality when shooting on location; through set-up of optimal lighting and sound recording conditions
• editing files shot by the videographer, AND /or Zoom live-stream session files; formatting them for on-demand distribution, often with a short turnaround time
• able to work with minimum supervision, to achieve desired outcomes and deliverables, identified by a project producer in advance

Required Qualifications
• age 29 or under, to qualify for Canada Summer Jobs wage support
• able to provide examples of prior digital content work, to demonstrate professional skills and abilities
• ability to work flexible hours, and occasional weekend hours, as project logistics require
• excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to work successfully with artist subjects on location
• able to supply basic shooting gear, including a professional-quality video camera, mic/s and stand/s
• able to begin work by July 6, 2020 or shortly after (see terms below)
Preferred Qualifications
• able to travel to a variety of Vancouver shooting locations using a personal vehicle or driving a car-share vehicle
• familiarity with / interest in the live theatre sector

Term of employment
• scheduled for up to 30 hours a week, for a minimum of 8 weeks, with flexible shifts to suit project requirements and the employee’s other commitments wherever possible
• an hourly wage rate, subject to negotiation, to take into account the employee’s experience and to acknowledge the employee’s freelance day rates for shooting and/or editing video; the employee will be engaged on a multi-week contract
• no access to an administrative office facility; the employee will need to work based out of their home with occasional location-site meetings (the employer’s administrative offices are closed to all staff due to COVID-19)
