The Assembly of First Nations Annual General Assembly began yesterday, July 24, 2018, at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The second day of the three-day event will be the AFN election for National Chief. Five candidates are vying for office, including incumbent Perry Bellegarde, Katherine Whitecloud, Sheila North, Russ Diabo and Miles Richardson. A candidate must gain a majority of 60 percent of the available votes registered at the assembly before being named national chief, a feat that has been difficult to achieve in the past.
