The annual Orange Shirt Day, which commemorates the residential school experience, can take place any day between Sept. 28 and the end of the month. Phyllis Webstad spoke to Jeremy Harpe of CJWE 88.1 FM about her first day of residential school at the St. Joseph Mission near Williams Lake, B.C., when the school removed the orange shirt her grandmother had bought her for the first day of school. The movement of Orange Shirt Day has grown fast since it was first started on Sept. 30, 2013.
