City of Victoria Removes Statue of Sir John A. Macdonald

The City of Victoria, B.C., has removed the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald outside the steps of city hall. Sir John A. Macdonald was Canada’s first prime minister, and he pushed the residential school system policy forward. City officials voted seven to one to remove the statue and believe this is an important step toward reconciliation and inclusion.
