Orange Shirt Day is officially recognized on September 30, and hundreds of students, politicians, dignitaries, and members of the public gathered in Edmonton to participate. Orange Shirt Day started in 2013 in Williams Lake, BC, in order to remember the victims of residential schools. The event was organized by the Society for Safe and Caring Schools and Communities, which works to educate children about bullying.
