After aging out of BC's youth in care system, Ruby Barclay attended Vancouver Island University. She did not have a support system in place to help her make the transition. Last spring, Barclay finished the requirements for her Child and Youth Care degree. She's taken a job as Youth Advisory Council Coordinator with the Nanaimo Aboriginal Centre so that she can support others who have experienced the government care system. Her education is breaking the cycle of poverty for her family and for future generations.
