Two hereditary chiefs within the Haida Nation were stripped of their titles in protest of the chiefs' support of Enbridge's proposed Northern Gateway oil pipeline. The chiefs were part of a group of 8 men who had signed a letter in support of the pipeline, in contradiction of the nation's consensus agreement to oppose the project.
