Indigenous Services Minister Wants to Avoid More Litigation for Child Welfare Discrimination Cases

First Nations child welfare legislation has been announced by the federal government. Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpott reassured chiefs at the Special Chiefs Assembly that she did not want to litigation regarding Canada's underfunding of on-reserve child and family services. Canadian Human Rights Tribunal (CHRT) has issued a directive that the federal government compensate the children in care who were victims of discrimination.
