Indigenous Woman Petitions Government to Stay in Canada

Mique'l Dangeli of the Tsimshian First Nation was born on the American side of the Annette Island Indian Reserve, and she must leave Canada when her visa expires on July 1. A former professor at the University of Alaska Southeast, she has been working to revive Sm'algyax, a threatened language, in the community of Kitsumkalum, British Columbia. She has started a petition that would allow her to stay in Canada.
