Thirty irreplaceable totem poles are being removed from the Museum of Anthropolgy's (MOA) great hall and placed lying down in an adjacent room while seismic upgrades are conducted. The older carvings are being moved first since they are more delicate than newer ones due to a longer time of exposure to the elements. The museum has consulted with First Nations in order to move the culturally important carvings in a sensitive and respectful manner.
