Project to Connect Remote Northern Communities to Power Grid

Kingfisher Lake is a remote community located about 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay with no road access. The Wataynikaneyap Power Project is providing training that will bring jobs to an area with an unemployment rate seven times the national average. Right now, electricity in Kingfisher Lake comes from a trio of diesel generators. The Wataynikaneyap project will put electric poles in the ground to connect transmission lines for 17 remote First Nations communities to Ontario's power grid.
