The Tsleil-Waututh First Nation once harvested shellfish and salmon at Maplewoods Flats, but years of industrial use took a heavy toll on the area. The area is being restored by a joint partnership between the Port of Vancouver and the Tsleil-Waututh First Nation. The project will take three to four years to complete.
