Retired Educator from Fisher Creek Is the Subject of New Documentary

Verna Kirkness, a former teacher from Fisher River Cree Nation, Man, is the subject of a new documentary titled Chalk to Change. Kirkness earned her teaching diploma in the 1950s, and she continues to advocate for Indigenous education and volunteer to help Indigenous students and educators across the country. She began her teaching career in Fisher River and also taught at Birtle Indian Residential School.
