Patricia Dawn, who is Cree, founded the Red Willow Womyn’s Society in 2008. Through this organization, she helps Indigenous women in British Columbia’s Cowichan Valley who are at risk of having their children apprehended by the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Services are available once children are apprehended, but not before, and Dawn is working to change that.
