Lake Cowichan First Nation

Lake Cowichan First Nation has one 39 hectare reserve, located on the north shore of Cowichan Lake.

The name comes from a Halkomelem word meaning "warm country" or "land warmed by the sun". Originally both Cowichan Lake and settlement were known simply as Kaatza, for "big lake". The band is part of the Salishan linguistic group.
