In recent years, the Chawathil First Nation has been undergoing a period of
rapid growth, development and transformation. The Nation has experienced
a number of accomplishments including the construction of a new multipurpose
centre and a day care. The Chawathil First Nation is confronting
serious development and growth pressures with a limited land base. The
Nation faces growing demands for infrastructure including housing, water,
sanitation, garbage disposal, roads, community facilities, and economic
development opportunities. In addition to these pressures, the location of
Chawathil reserves, each located on or along the banks of the Fraser River,
has resulted in the lands being bisected by multiple right‐of‐ways including
