The Kwiakah First Nation is concerned about the impacts to key aquatic resources from past and proposed industrial logging in Phillips Arm. They commissioned Ecofish Research Ltd. (Ecofish) to conduct the Phillips Arm Aquatic Resource Assessment, which examined the current status of salmon, eelgrass, bivalves (clams) and crabs in Phillips Arm (Hocking et al. 2015). Eelgrass and clam resources were traditionally harvested in Phillips Arm. However, the Phillips Arm Aquatic Resource Assessment identified information gaps pertaining to the current abundance and distribution of eelgrass and bivalves in Phillips Arm, and recommended a field assessment.
