Strategic planning should be seen as an organizational management activity that defines the organization’s goals and provides direction for decision making on the allocation of its resources to pursue the objectives. As well, it must ensure that proper control mechanisms are in place for guiding the plan implementation, monitoring, and revisions. Simply having a strategic plan does not guarantee improved results. One of the purposes of the strategic plan is to build agreement among the organization’s top people so that the plan's objectives are understood and promoted by all. This type of consensus energizes and motivates those who are responsible for implementing the strategies. Enhanced morale within the staff will inevitably result in overall improved performances.
