Thirty irreplaceable totem poles are being removed from the Museum of Anthropolgy's (MOA) great hall and placed lying down in an adjacent room while seismic upgrades are conducted.

Proposals for repurposing the former US embassy building in Ottawa include a centre spotlighting the "culture, achievements and the prominent role" of Canada's indigenous peoples. The heritage building across from Parliament Hill has been empty since 1999.
